What is Spyware?
Spyware is a relatively new type of malicious software. Similarly to viruses, it is being secretly installed onto your computer, but its purpose is different. While viruses usually bring your computer down to a crash, spyware is designed in a way to keep working on your computer unnoticed for as long as possible. Spyware can be used for monitoring your actions, changing your system settings (to make your computer less protected), displaying advertising (popup screens, windows messages, etc.), track your Internet behavior and report this information to a central database. Spyware can also be used to collect your passwords, email contacts and credit card information. Other names for these applications are: thiefware, adware, malware (malicious software).
